Einleitung
So, bevor ich loslege ein paar einleitende Worte. Es ist das erste Mal, dass ich über Musik oder Konzerte schreibe. Ich habe nur begrenzt Ahnung von Musik und ein musikalisches Gehör, was dem einer Schlange gleichkommt. Auch begrenzen sich meine Erfahrungen mit Konzertbesuchen vor allem solche, die man unter Alkoholeinfluss in studentischen Partyräumen erlebt. Ich habe also so etwa keine Ahnung, was ich hier fabriziere, aber ich versuche es einfach mal. Marian Call, wer ist das?

Marian Call ist eine studierte Komponistin und feurige, selbst ausgebildete Sängerin aus Alaska. Ihre Lieder sind abwechslungsreich, witzig, leichtfüßig, ehrlich und zutiefst menschlich. Ihre formelle Ausbildung erfuhr sie an der Universität von Stanford, wo sie Komposition und Gesang studierte, doch ihre Inspiration sind das Leben und die Menschen, die sie darin trifft.
Ihre Lieder sind immer wieder von klassischen Nerdthemen, wie den Serien Firefly oder Battlestar Galactica inspiriert. Der Grund, wieso ich dann doch denke, es passt gut hier ins Blog, auch wenn es dann nicht nur bei Pen&Paper-Themen bleibt.

Das Konzert
Das Konzert war in Herne - Wanne-Eickel in einem Gemeindehaus. Sicherlich nicht der typische Ort für ein eher geekiges Konzert, aber ok. Das Konzert fand dann in einem Raum des Gemeindehauses statt, sicherlich nicht 100% Konzert geeignet von der Akustik, aber sicherlich besser als in so mancher Kneipe.Wir - Danke nochmal an Alex fürs Fahren - trafen kurz vor Einlass ein. Dank Navi haben wir es gut gefunden, war aber auch nicht so versteckt. Es waren nur wenige Gäste da, aber das machte nichts bei der Atmosphäre. Alle waren sehr nett, und es gab ein Kuchenbüfett gegen Spenden. Marian Call gesellte sich selbst auch dazu, und unterhielt sich mit allen Anwesenden. Eine wirklich tolle Frau.
Nach einer kurzen Einleitung durch die Veranstalterin - hier auch nochmal einen großen Dank an Petra, die das Konzert möglich gemacht hat - startet Marian durch.
Marian wird bei Ihrem Gesang begleitet von dem Gitarristen Scott Barkan.(http://www.scottbarkanmusic.com/). Dieser spielte nach der Pause auch Stücke aus seinem eigenen Album und sein aktuelles Album war auch vor Ort käuflich zu erwerbe,
Neben der Begleitung durch die Gitarre begleitete sich Marian in vielen Stücken selbst mit einer Schreibmaschine. Ja, sie nutzt eine gut hörbare Schreibmaschine als Instrument. Das Klappern der Schreibmaschine passt sehr gut zu ihren Stücken.
Marian selbst zeigt sehr viel Einsatz auf der Bühne (ok, sie stand auf dem selben Boden, auf dem auch unsere Stühle standen, es war halt nur ein Raum in einem Gemeindezentrum), und hat eine wundervolle energiegeladene Stimme.
Neben bekannten aus ihren alten Alben, hat sie aus ihrem neuen Album "Sketchbook", welches am ersten Dezember erscheinen soll, einige Stücke gespielt.
In der Pause gab es eine lustige Aktion. Marian hatte einen Sack Postkarten von allen möglichen vorherigen Konzerten dabei, beschriftet von Konzertgängern. Man zog sich also eine solche Postkarte und bekam nun eine Postkarte von jemandem völlig unbekannten aus einer zufälligen Stadt. Im Gegenzug schrieb man eine neue Karte und diese kam später zu den bereits vorhandenen Postkarte für jemanden anders irgendwo in der Welt. (Ok, meine befindet sich inzwischen in der Postkartensammlung einer guten Freundin)
Interessant war auch, dass sie keine CDs mit hat, sondern nur Cover der CDs verkauft. Man kauft ein solchen und erhält dann entweder einen Download-Code für BandCamp oder auf Wunsch später eine CD aus den USA zugeschickt. (Eine Ausgabe Ihres neuen Albums fand so seinen Weg zu mir, bzw. wird am ersten Dezember seinen Weg zu mir finden)
Insgesamt ein tolles Konzert, und würde ja gerne in Osnabrück heute Abend dabei sein, aber Arbeit geht vor.

English Part
Introduction
This is my first time writing about music and concerts. I have only a little knowledge in music and I did not have a good ear for music (it is as good as the ear of a snake). Also my only experiences with concerts are this type of concerts, which you visit during study on the university ground. (Normally with lots of alcohol). And my English is under all pig (ok, explanation: this is a literal translation of a German phrase, it means: beneath contempt - and this wrong English phrase is a joke in Germany about Germans speaking wrong English) So, I have no idea, what I'm doing here. It'll be OK.(Ok, in the German Version here is the video of her song "Good Moring Moon", if you want to see and hear it, scroll up please. The footnote under the video is just a hint for a song about the moon of Wanne-Eickel, that district of Herne, the concert took place)
Marina Call - Who is that?
Ok, in the German version I just quote Marian's Webside, but there is not such a text on her English Version, so I will quote Wikipedia.Marian Call (born February 24, 1982 in Gig Harbor, Washington), is an American singer-songwriter based in Juneau, Alaska. Call has released three studio albums: Vanilla (2007), Got to Fly (2008), and Something Fierce (2011).
Call is known for her songs containing themes of geek culture, as well as her rise to popularity through the use of the Internet and social networking.

The concert
The concert takes location in a community centre in Herne - Wanne-Eickel, Germany. I think a Christian community centre is not the typical place for a geeky concert, but ok. It was just a normal big room, not a really musical location, but probably better than a bar.It were only a few visitors (I guess around twenty), but this was not bad for the feeling. Everyone was nice and there was a delicious cake buffet (and they just asked for a donation). Marian Calls was with us and talked to the visitors. She is really a nice person.
After a short introduction by the organizer, Marian started singing.
Marian was accompanied on guitar by Scott Barkan.(http://www.scottbarkanmusic.com/). He also played some of his own songs after the break and you could also buy his album.
Marian was not only singing but accompanies herself by typewriting. Yes, she used a typewriter as an instrument. Very impressive. The rattling of the type writer fits wonderful to her songs.
Marian shows much of emotion and energy on the stage. Marian played several songs from her published albums and some from her coming album "Sketchbook".
During the break Marian had a funny campaign. She had a postbag full of post cards from all locations she did concerts before. All post cards were written by visitors of those concerts. So you pick a random one from the bag and write a new one for the next concert. So know I have a post card from a totally stranger from Montana, USA. (Better a good friend of mine, who is collecting postcards, has it)
Another interesting fact was, that Marian has no CDs to sell at the tour. If you want to buy one of her CDs, you buy a cover and get a voucher to download the CD from BandCamp or get the CD by post from the USA later. (So at the moment I'm waiting for December to get my voucher for Sketchbook)
Overall it was a great concert, and I wish I could visit the one in Onsabrück today, but work is more important.
